New Salem Borough was incorporated July 24, 1876.

Sherwood Forest was annexed on October 7, 1969.

New Salem Borough has a population of 724 according to the 2010 Census and an area of 0.46 square miles.


Mayor Grace Angotti has resigned as of October 6, 2015.

Rail Trail Pumpkin Walk Flier

FAQ Pumpkin Walk

There will be a Pumpkin Walk on a portion of the Rail Trail on October 17, 2015 from 7 pm - 9 pm Donation $5.00. Enjoy a 0.5-mile, round-trip, walk on the Heritage Rail Trail (PA’s #1 Trail!), beginning and ending at the Seven Valleys Parking Lot, decorated & lighted with hand-carved pumpkins.

Trick or Treat

Saturday, October 31, 2015 - 6pm-8pm. Residents who wish to treat children are asked to have their porch lights on; to let youngsters know where they are welcomed. In addition to neighborhood Trick or Treat, the York New Salem Lions Club & York New Salem Fire Company will be set up at the Square with Treats for the children.

Lions plan chicken barbeque & bake sale

The York New Salem Lions Club will hold their Fall Chicken Barbeque and Bake Goods Sale from 10 a.m. until sold out on Saturday, October 24, 2015, on the lot next to Stambaugh Plumbing on N. Main St. The take-out meal includes a half chicken and baked potato for $6.50. Pies, cakes, cookies and other deserts will also be for sale. Proceeds support community projects. New Salem Borough Council wishes to extend to the youth of New Salem a voice in the operation of the Borough and Borough Council. The Council is currently accepting applications from high school students who are residents of the Borough.
